I would love to support you on your journey to a happier and healthier body!
I have worked with people from all walks of life including dancers, athletes, people with back, shoulder, hip, knee & foot issues, the elderly and people with neurological issues.
I have dedicated almost three decades to teaching movement, starting with ballet and later transitioning to Pilates. I am certified by the PhysicalMind Institute and Pilates Method Alliance, and also hold a certification in McLoughlin Scar Tissue ReleaseⓇ. I served as a faculty member for two Pilates certification programs and have conducted Pilates classes in San Francisco, while also working with individuals worldwide.
During my pursuit of a BFA degree at the National Institute of the Arts in Taiwan and an MFA degree at the University of Arizona, I delved into subjects like anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, and dance injury prevention. To fulfill my curiosity about the human body and its movements, I continually broaden my knowledge by studying diverse subjects such as gait and neuro movement with esteemed professionals like Madeline Black, Gary Ward at AiM, and Trent McEntire, among others. |
Before embracing Pilates, I embarked on a global tour with the renowned Lan Yang Dancers at the age of 14, and later became a lead dancer with Ballet Oklahoma for numerous years. Following my ballet career, I maintained my ballet practice and explored various movement forms including Muay Thai, Taichi, and Animal Flow.
My teaching approach is deeply rooted in my extensive journey with movement, profound curiosity of the human body, and a strong desire to make a positive impact to my clients' lives. I adapt to your individual abilities, equip you with valuable tools for growth, and offer great support to help you reach your goals. |
"I have been working with Sonya since I first started doing pilates over 10 years ago and still work with her now that I am a certified instructor. She always knows what I need, how to challenge me and introduces me to new ideas that I can then use in the classes I teach. She is one of the absolute best. If you have the opportunity to work with her, do it."
